Monthly foodie club @ Wooden spoon kitchen
Mar 15 @ 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Monthly foodie club @ Wooden spoon kitchen

I have been dreaming of a  community of foodies coming together once a month.

I would love to have a bigger impact, and building relationships.
I have been craving more connection and I would love to have more discussions  about food, cooking and eating it, sharing ideas, discussing recipe books, the newest diet trends, great places to eat and what on earth to put in your children’s lunchboxes, and also what to make when the inlaws come over for Christmas. Maybe this idea will flourish or it will nose dive but I am putting it out there. We will meet once a month on a Friday morning and we will skip the months where there are endless holidays.

Your commitment will be to attend every get-together and if you can not come you will get someone in your place  so the group is always full. You can also pay monthly.

We will be a small group of 12 ladies and over the year I am sure friendships will be built and we will learn from each other.

Every month’s menu will be a surprise, ranging from fancy entertaining recipes to warming and comforting recipes for the winter months. I am more on the practical and healthy side so teaching you to meal prep or hiding veggies from your children will trump fancy meals you only make occasionally.

I will create an exclusive whats up group where we could ask foodie questions, give last minute arrangements or if you can’t come maybe Angela’s mom can come with her.

If this works, it might grow into a few groups, but let’s just see if you can get 12 ladies together.

2-Day special diets cooking course

Two years ago my dad was diagnosed with Ankylosing spondylitis, a type of arthritis that affects the spine.

At first, he tried the normal medical route by seeing a rheumatologist, it involved drinking a ton of medicine some as strong as chemo. The next treatment plan was going to be biochemical injections that are extremely expensive and also caused melanoma in another patient.

Instead of driving to the Dr to get the injections, we canceled the appointment. Stocked up on ingredients from organic stores, researched the AIP (autoimmune protocol diet) and made an appointment with Dr.  Ian Graig from the nutritional institute a world-renowned nutritionist. It was time to turn around this illness with less medical intervention and more diet intervention.  My dad got food allergy blood tests done and the foods that caused the most inflammation was dairy, eggs, and wheat (gluten) there were also a few others on the list but these were the main culprits. Dr. Ian did advise them what to eat but to put that into practice and make it sustainable is very difficult if you are a novice cook that has been eating a traditional South African diet all your life.

For months I drove my parents to Ian, helped them shopped, planned their meals. My dad did not follow through with all the visits to the Nutritionists and supplements because fighting a disease with diet and supplements can become pretty expensive and the Medical aid will off course pay for treatments that could have adverse effects but will not pay a penny towards a healthy diet or supplements. It has been two years since my dad changed his diet and he is so much better, he still gets episodes of painful attacks but I also think that it is stress related. My parents also live in the countryside and don’t have access to organic food and all the whole foods that I would like them to eat.

But I do believe that I had a big role to play in helping him turn a corner with his illness with my knowledge of ingredients and healthy recipes. When diagnosed with an allergy or food intolerance it can be overwhelming. But the focus should be what am I allowed to eat and then to make sure you can cook those foods in a delicious way.

I decided to offer this course after already working with a few families to help them navigate this very difficult time. by introducing you to new ingredients, cooking techniques and a different way to shop.

Disclaimer: I am not a nutritionist, and see myself as someone to help you with the practical side of changing your diet when a diagnosis has already been made.

The course will focus on diets that don’t include eggs, dairy or wheat.

I will teach you to make:

  • x3 new breakfast ideas
  • x3 lunch
  • x3 dinner
  • x3 snacks
  • How to meal prep?
