This is my go-to recipe when life get's rushed and I did not plan our meals.

My @instantpotsa always saves the day when time is limited.

But you can also make this recipe on a stove top. It will just take a bit longer.

Another timesaver @pesto_princess sauces. They taste so delicious and I know they don't add lot's of preservatives and flavorings just real ingredients!

You can also customize this recipe by adding vegetables like carrots and baby marrows or using GF pasta. I often also add lentils with the mince for extra fibre. Hope you try it.

I know it is hard to let go of your Tupper and spe

I know it is hard to let go of your Tupper and spending endless hours looking for and organising lids.🤣🙈

Don't get my wrong I still have three large tupper containers for baking/holidays etc but for day to day use I ditched plastic containers a long time ago. I use @pyrexhome glass dishes. I know glass containers with the wooden lids are beautiful but they will not be as durable and functional.

Here are my 10 reasons

1. Choose one or two sizes so they can stack. In the cupboard, fridge and freezer. It makes organising so much easier.
2. Less chance of leftovers going off. Because you can actually see what's inside.
3.They can go in the oven
4 They can go in the microwave
5.They are great in the dishwasher
6.They freeze well, just defrost a little or run under water before removing the lid. Otherwise they tear at the corners. Talking from experience.
7. Same lid, fits all the containers.
8. Glass is durable and cleans easy.No stains, smells or lasting onion flavours that stays behind.
9. Glass is cheaper than plastic and will last longer.
10. And one of the most important reasons, No BPA'S or toxic endocrine disrupting chemicals are present in glass.

It is exam season and I packed some care boxes for two matric ladies.

At least once a week I bake something. It normally happens on a weekend. I like that I can control the ingredients. I can add it to lunchboxes, and today these muffins came in handy when we had unexpected guests.

I know convenience is all around us, and it is so much easier to pick up baked goods from the supermarket. But make time to bake, to plotter around in the kitchen, involve your kids.

It is not a waste of time, it is therapy, it is family time, it is togetherness, it is hospitality....

First of all good luck Springboks!! 🇿🇦 I am sure we will see you in the finals!!

I am always on salad duty when there is a bring + braai.
The possibilities are endless and I always try something new.

Here are my best salad tips:

❎️ When roasting vegetables for a salad, make sure to roast the vegetables until caramelized. That means they should be golden brown with crunchy bits. At this stage the sugars in the vegetables will caramelize and will taste 100% more delicious.

❎️ Make a kick-ass dressing, using garlic, mustard, lemon juice, olive oil and honey. Play around with other flavours like ginger, chillies, cumin or experiment with Thai or Morrocan flavours. Pesto's are also great.

❎️ Add some crunch with nuts, seeds or croutons. Toast nuts and seeds in a dry pan until golden brown. Pumpkin seeds will pop when ready.

❎️ Don't make salads to early, nobody likes a soggy, watery salad

❎️ Add proteins: chicken, beans, lentils,tuna, salmon,steak, roasted tofu, boiled eggs, feta, boccocini for a more filling meal

❎️ Add healthy fats: olive oil, avocado, olives, nuts+seeds for extra satiety

❎️ Add a grain, my favourites are bulgur wheat, giant cous cous, quinoa(but have to say not my favourite, it often gets stuck #acchalacia 🙈)

❎️ Iceberg lettuce is great but there are so many more interesting salad leaves: microgreen, fresh herbs, rocket, watercress, cos lettuce etc. Try something new!!

❎️ If 🥒 and 🍅 is your go to salad ingredients try something new, what about roasted butternut, broccoli, beetroot, eggplant, peaches, watermelon and mint. So many options.

Day 18

I may or may not have missed a day or two this week🙈Just too many things going on. But will still try to get those reels up.

Tonight is all about Friday-Fakeaways. You know staying home and not get take-aways. I have listed some of our favourites. We eat food from all over the world and love to try new things.

I don't have recipes on the blog for these but they are only a search away on Pinterest. Use some ready-made sauces or products to make this meal stress-free.

I also created some Free Family conversations cards, (I will add the link in stories) So you can have some thoughtfull discussions with your family.

True story

Before we buy anything new for the kitchen, we always consider if it can go in the dishwasher. I do forget sometimes and get hung up on esthetics.

And off course many things can go in the dishwasher, but how long will it last then?

If you put plastic in a dishwasher it won't last as long as glass. If the grater has a wooden handle it won't last.

Just something to remember to simplify shopping decisions and to make your equipment and containers last.

* I know not everyone has a dishwasher but for me it has always been a non-negotiable.

DIY dishwasher tablets...yes you can make them yourself I know the ones from the supermarket are really expensive.🙄

But I will let you in on a secret, these tablets cost R1 each. So if you use one a day it will only set you back R365 per year.

Does it work. YES!! I still use the salts and rinse aid though. I wrote a long blog post about the science behind it and the recipe and where to find citric acid.

It will take you 5 minutes once a month. Let me know if you tried it.
